Power Plant Fueled by Coal and Biomass

Selby, United Kingdom
The European Union subsidizes the burning of “Biomass” to make electricity by giving carbon credits.
The idea was to promote the use of wood and paper and agricultural waste to make electricity.
But the there is not enough of this waste.
So the argument was made that burning a tree and planting a tree is “carbon neutral”, and suddenly these European subsidies were paying for deforestation of virgin forests in Alabama and North Carolina to make wood pellets to burn in old coal power plants.
