Factory Fish Farm of Salmon

Passamaquoddy Bay, Canada

Factory fish farms share the hazards of all factory animal farms: human health issues, environmental damage, and cruelty to the animals. The fish, which in the wild have large habitats, are kept in crowded, unsanitary conditions. To prevent disease and pests, they are fed antibiotics and pesticides, which are passed on to any human that eats them. The environmental impact of these farms is significant: those drugs and pesticides pollute the ocean, these non-native species bring diseases to the local species, and can even breed with the local species and dilute the gene stock.
