This is the fifth largest refinery in the USA, and one of the most toxic industrial facilities. Periodic explosions and fires at this plant have caused significant toxic releases, above the normal volume emitted. Most recently, an explosion and fire in February 2020 leaked high volumes of sulphuric acid, benzene and butadiene.
