Coal Ash Waste At Electricity Generation Plant

Canadys, South Carolina, USA

When coal-fired power plant ash is improperly disposed, contaminants including arsenic, lead, mercury, selenium and others can migrate into groundwater, lakes and streams. This plant was cited by the US Environmental Protection Agency in 2011 as a “proven case” of environmental damage. It is known to have contaminated groundwater with arsenic and is one of the largest emitters of sulfur dioxide (SO2) in the U.S.
