Cooling Tower For Coal Fired Power Plant Under Construction

In an hourglass-shaped cooling tower, the iconic landscape element of large steam power plants, hot boiler water is percolated from the top into pools at the bottom, cooling it for recirculation back into the boiler, and releasing clouds of steam. This facility released 40 kg of mercury, 1030 tons of nitrogen oxides (NOx/NO2), 990 tons of sulfur oxides (SOx/SO2), and 3,430,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) in 2016.
