Erosion patterns in coal ash waste at power plant site
Moncks Corner, South Carolina, USA
Though the power plant that created this toxic waste was relatively small, it still emitted over 2 million tons of CO2 and 100 pounds of vaporized mercury per year, as well as a host of other toxics. Now that it has been shuttered, society must still contend with the mountains of toxic ash impounded and leaching into the river where these plants were always built for access to cooling water.
