The Maeslantkering is a storm surge barrier on the Nieuwe Waterweg, Rotterdam Harbor. Controlled by a supercomputer, it automatically closes when Rotterdam is threatened by floods. On the right of the frame is one of the world’s largest petroleum refinery complexes. It contains two power plants which are the 11th and 92nd largest greenhouse gas producers in the EU, and three refineries which rank 65, 130, and 147 in GHG emissions.
